I know a lot of my readers like to entertain, so here’s a “how-to” book by my friend, the very handsome and charming host and creator of the hit food, wine, travel and style TV show, Entertaining People — Porter Brooks. Porter and I judged the Sabor de Baja event in Rosarito several months ago, an especially fun time seeing Porter and I have very similar palates. As a true celebrity taste-maker, Porter is a master when it comes to food and style, giving his audience a host of ideas about food, wine, travel and style.
In Porter’s book Parties & Celebrations, he brings forth personal experiences within each chapter, allowing readers a glimpse into his life, his journey, and who he is as a person. I love how the book is set up. If you’re looking for an affordable way to entertain a bigger party, Porter has a “Dinner For Ten Under $100” idea for you, complete with the setting and an easy-to-follow menu from start to finish.
“Making High Tea Hip” is one of my favorites where Porter will guide you through recipes to make simple, but delicious finger sandwiches for your tea party.
There is also a chapter called “Tapas Kitchen Party” which starts with an introduction to the flavors of Spain and includes a page on how to create a vibrant table setting perfect for this type of get-together.
What I like best is if you’re feeling adventurous, you may pick and choose from the chapters, the dishes you love and select for a dinner, or you can follow it exactly.
Porter stumbled into his professional culinary career by accident, with no formal training beyond learning through his travels of the world which became his test kitchen for developing his palate and culinary technique. For over two decades, his passion for food and travel has brought his American roots and diverse cross-cultural European influence to the American table through his television series, cookbook and live performance.
