Ruby’s Diner has some new breakfast items on their menu. We were there to try some of them including:
Breakfast Grilled Cheese ($7.99) is great if you like grilled cheese sandwiches. The bacon and avocado really made the sandwich pop. The grilled sourdough toast is good, but does get soggy quickly if you take a long time to eat it. The use of both Swiss and Cheddar cheeses intensifies the whole grilled cheese experience.
Not being a huge fan of burritos, I was slightly hesitant to order this, however, I’m glad I listened to our server because the Egg White Burrito ($10.99) was absolutely delicious!! Filled with scrambled egg whites, Cheddar and Jack cheese, and organic spinach, it is a great choice for vegetarians and those looking for something on the lighter side (ask for no cheese if you want to make it even more lo-cal. I would totally order this again.
Chorizo Bowl ($8.49) is another good choice if you’re looking for something delicious. I love tater tots so this is an awesome choice. The bottom is layered with crispy tater tots, then topped with spicy turkey chorizo, two jumbo eggs prepared your way. The house-made salsa is great (you can ask for some even if you’re eating something else), guacamole, cotija cheese, and ancho cream add another layer of flavors to the mix. It would have been nicer had it been actually served in a bowl.
The most surprising item was the 50/50 Hotcake Combo ($10.99) – suggested by our server – these orange infused pancakes are fluffy and layered with marmalade and powdered sugar. What I love most is that it is not terribly sweet. The marmalade is a perfect accompaniment to the pancakes and if you want it even less sweet, ask for the powdered sugar to be served on the side, or omitted.
