Mix Mix Kitchen Bar in Downtown Santa Ana is one of my favorite restaurants right now — read my review here. Chef-owner Ross Pangilinan is one of the most creative chefs around, and this week, he has launched a new pop-up lunch concept — Mix Box Kitchen — featuring a 3-course lunch for $15.
A modern “bento box” featuring favorites from Chef Ross’ globally-inspired menu includes Pork Cheek Adobo — the accompanying garlic rice is amazing — House Made Chitarra “Carbonara” Pasta, and one of my favorites, Korean Marinated Grilled Chicken paired with kimchi fried rice.
Diners may choose an item from three sections to create the “bento box”.
1. SALAD
Gem Lettuce – tangerine, cheddar, pepitas, pomegranate vinaigrette
Moroccan Carrot Salad – harissa yogurt
Caesar Salad – garlic croutons
Green Salad – grapes, apples, blue cheese, walnuts, green goddess
Farro Salad – lemon-herb dressing
2. SNACK
Tuna Poke “Nachos” – chicharrones, avocado, seaweed
Albacore Tostada – orange, Sriracha mayo, avocado
Roasted Cauliflower – gochujang, citrus, cashews
Roasted Trumpet Mushrooms – gremolata
Chorizo Potato Croquettes – lime jalapeño aioli
3. MAIN
Korean Marinated Grilled Chicken – kimchi fried rice
Miso Salmon – soy-ginger soba noodles
Pork Cheek Adobo – garlic fried rice, chimichurri, crispy shallot
House Made Chitarra “Carbonara” – spaghetti, guanciale, black pepper, parmesan
Stir Fried Tofu – market vegetables, garlic-ginger sauce
