I’m always wary when it comes to dishes created to soak up alcohol. However, once in a while, I come across something that’s surprisingly good, and not the type of fare that usually catches my eye.
When I saw Pulled Pork Fries ($12) on Great Society Cider & Mead’s menu, my first instinct was to quickly move along. That wasn’t the case on this occasion as my friend ordered them, and thank goodness he did because it was oh so very tasty!
Hand cut Kennebec fries are fried to crispy perfection. Then, they’re topped with slow-cooked pork that’s packed with flavor, and oh did I mention, so, so tender. There is also a house-made queso fundido, and house-made cider poppy coleslaw which cuts the overall weightiness of the other components.
It is also one of the best things to nibble on while enjoying one (or more) of the extensive variety of ciders, both on tap and otherwise. Give them a try the next time you’re out in Long Beach.
