Chef Carlos Salgado’s James Beard Award semi-finalist restaurant at SoCo in Costa Mesa is one of the most popular eateries in Orange County, and rightfully so.
On the day of our visit, Taco Maria is bustling and jam packed with diners, plus more waiting outside. We were told there is a 15-minute wait, but ultimately, it was closer to 30 minutes, but who cares? Once you bite into the Pescado Frito ($17/2 tacos), you’ll forget how long you were waiting, and revel in what you’re eating.
The Pescado Frito taco includes a hand-made blue corn masa tortilla, topped with perfectly battered local black cod, charred scallion aioli, cabbage and blueberries. Drizzle a little of the house-made chile oil over the fish if you’re into spicy! It’s a mouthwatering experience that makes me extremely happy!
If you haven’t visited Taco Maria lately, it’s time to go!
