When I received a copy of Nourished, my first instinct was to read review copies of books the same way — start from the beginning, but then, skim through the book for relevant information, maybe test out a recipe or two, and then give my prognosis.
Usually, I receive cookbooks which are dotted with stories here and there, and those are fabulous — don’t get me wrong. However, once in a while, I come across food-related novels — like Nourished — and this book captured my attention from the very start, beginning with the Prologue.
The book chronicles a powerful journey across the globe for author Lia Huber (pictured below) who found healing and meaning through food. Each chapter ends with a recipe which reflects the story you’ve just read.
For the author, this journey led her to look at food in a very different way, and due to challenges in her own health, was able to use food to heal and repair what doctors couldn’t. This is partly my own journey too, being a food writer, and constantly bombarded by food every single day. I’ve also learned to eat differently this year and realizing that food can either heal us, or make us sick.
