If you’ve ever been curious about Baja’s wine country, then this is a good book for you to check out. Seven Days in the Valle: Baja California’s Wine Country Cuisine features seven different Baja chefs in Valle de Guadalupe with beautiful photography and stories to boot.
Author and photographer W. Scott Koenig is a San Diego-based journalist and is a respected raconteur of anything south of the border. His blog A Gringo in Mexico is well known among those who are constantly in search of things to do and where to go in Baja, California. I’m also proud to call him friend. I met Scott years ago on a media trip down to Baja, and since then, have developed a friendship with him and his lovely wife Ursula.
Seven Days in the Valle features celebrity chefs such as Finca Altozano’s Javier Plascencia and Deckman’s en El Mogor’s Drew Deckman (who I was honored to serve on a judging panel with at Sabor de Baja 2015). Other lesser known — but equally important — chefs include Esthela Martínez of La Cocina de Doña Esthela, Roberto Alcocer of Malva, Miguel Angel Guerrero of La Esperanza, Sheyla Alvarado of Traslomita, and Diego Hernandez of Corazon de Tierra.
With over 100 full color photos and personal interviews with the chefs, this book is perfect for those who are curious about the Valle, and the richness of its culinary topography. Proceeds from this book will benefit the El Porvenir Volunteer Fire Department in Valle de Guadalupe.
The book is available on hardback, or paperback and can be found on A Gringo In Mexico. Please click here to order.
