I love fried chicken, but I don’t love all fried chicken. I love Popeye’s but detest KFC. These days, there are plenty of restaurants that make fabulous fried chicken, but I do love Roscoe’s from time to time.
Once a year (maybe two) we will drive to Long Beach and indulge in some fried chicken. This year, my friends and I went on new year’s day for breakfast, and I found myself steering away from the Obama special of three chicken wings, and ordered the combo plate which includes an egg, a bowl of grits, and a biscuit.

My friends always order the chicken and waffles, and while it is good, I will choose grits over waffles any day. Unfortunately, the grits this morning is not stellar. It is a tad too thick and arrives lukewarm. I tried the biscuit, and it is definitely better with the gravy. Surprisingly, I prefer the biscuit from Popeye’s over this.
If you’re looking to booze up this early, you can do so. There is michelada, as well as mimosas to choose from.
Even though service is always on the slow side, I don’t mind waiting because I love their fried chicken. It is always fall-off-the-bone moist. There’s another location in Anaheim that is closer to me, but for some reason, the chicken isn’t as good there. Go to the location in Long Beach, and park in their lot across the street! You’ll be glad you did.

Hmmm. I like the chicken in Anaheim. If you’re saying it’s even better here, I’ll have to give it a try. Oh and Happy New Year!
