Hidalgo’s Cocina & Cócteles in Fullerton has undergone a complete menu revamp. The restaurant recently launched a brunch menu including tacos, and more substantial offerings that are shareable, for the whole family.
Start with some tacos… Nopales & Mushroom ($11) are really good, and vegetarian-friendly. The tortillas are filled with cactus, corn salsa, red onions, cilantro and queso fresco. It is flavorful and a solid vegetarian item.
Another good taco option is Grilled Octopus ($16). A tad too much chipotle crema for my palate, but the octopus is solid, possessing a hint of char.
For your main course, there is Short Rib Barbacoa & Goat Cheese Enchiladas ($17) served with pasilla cream sauce, queso fresco, pico de gallo, crema, avocado and a sunny-side egg. I suggest sharing this as it is on the rich side. The accompanying beans and rice are delicious!
Seafood Relleno ($17) is another substantial entree. The poblano pepper is stuffed with crab, shrimp and Oaxaca cheese topped with queso fresco, pico de gallo, crema, and roasted corn. Served with a side of Hidalgo’s tasty rice.
To satiate your sweet tooth, you’ll find Churros ($8) served with a spiced chocolate dipping sauce.
Or, the Pastel Tres Leches ($7), a moist cake with whipped cream, seasonal fruit, and cactus fruit puree.
**Brunch is offered on weekends only.
