W Cafe is a quaint addition to Newport Beach

Last week, I met my girlfriends for one of our monthly get-togethers at W Cafe, a new spot in Newport Beach. It might be difficult to find if you’re not exactly sure where it is. If you are familiar with Haute Cakes Cafe, it’s in the same plaza further to the left, hidden at the back of the walkway right next to Toys Ahoy.  Since I am never a huge fan of breakfast items, I was really happy to see that their extensive menu is served all day long.

If you’re looking for something healthy, Chia Pudding ($6.50) is definitely a good way to go. The almond milk-soaked chia seeds is thick and possesses great flavor from the almond milk. The hemp granola is crunchy, giving a great contrast to the soft, gooey chia pudding. It is topped with blackberries, strawberries and blueberries.

I’m ordinarily not a fan of burritos because I don’t like beans and rice with the wrap. The Breakfast Burrito ($9) had no rice or beans, but it is generously packed with eggs, pico de gallo, avocado, cheese, turkey and kale. It is very cheesy and really delicious. I was pleasantly surprised, and it is a burrito I may just order on a future trip.

Basil Chicken Panini ($10) is a tasty sandwich with chicken breast, spinach, pesto and mozzarella cheese. The bread gets a little soggy if you are a slow eater, but overall, it is a stellar sandwich. Plus, a side salad comes with it.

My choice of Asian Cobb Salad ($14) is a plate of mixed greens tossed in a sesame seed vinaigrette, with a piece of pan-seared salmon on the side. I’m not sure why it is named a “Cobb” salad as I attribute Cobb salad to a lot of ingredients packed into it. Despite the misnomer, it is very flavorful and a good paleo choice.

My friend’s little boy and I both order a side of Turkey Bacon ($3) which we both relished with glee. It was really good so I don’t think he noticed it wasn’t porcine. He just happily chomped on it as I did.

W Cafe is a nice spot for breakfast or lunch. Our server (and it looked like he was the only one working) was very attentive and cheerful. Definitely an important aspect of a meal out.

About Me

This blog is a journal of mostly my eating adventures, but also, other things I'm passionate about, including travel, the arts, and also, necessities to complete my life. Centered predominantly in and around Orange County, CA, some will extend to Los Angeles, San Diego and beyond. I am constantly searching for delicious food to eat and fun things to do, nothing is out of bounds. Sometimes it doesn't end well, but I can definitely say, it will always be an interesting journey.
