As you all know, I love EATS Kitchen & Bar at Hotel Irvine. My friends and I even celebrated Thanksgiving at EATS this year, enjoying a multi-cultural feast of dishes prepared by the diverse group under Executive Chef Jason Montelibano, who brought his Filipino heritage to the table in the form of lumpia.
As Christmas draws near, Chef Jason has devised a menu to celebrate the holiday season by offering a special item each day, starting today.
Day 1/December 12: Partridge in a Pear Tree, a bruschetta using grilled ciabatta, topped with pear jam, brie, a runny quail egg and port reduction. The salty sweet bruschetta is absolutely perfect with one or two of the festive cocktails available.
Day 2/December 13: Two Turtle Doves will feature chocolate turtle doves.
Day 3/December 14: Three French Hens is a coq au vin of tender wine-braised chicken leg, served with cheddar and roasted garlic Ansel Mills grits, all brought together by a rich chicken jus.
Day 4/December 15: Four Calling Birds features roasted squab — my favorite!
Day 5/December 16: Five Golden Rings will be doughnut rings
Day 6/December 17: Six Geese A Laying features six-spiced duck breast with gorgeous accompaniments of pickled raspberries, carrot puree, and Bing cherry gelee. It is absolutely to-die-for.
Day 7/December 18: Seven Swans A Swimming is a Swanson cocktail (Bacon Old Fashion) using a house-infused bacon bourbon.
Day 8/December 19: Eight Maids A Milking — Cinnamon Toast Crunch Ice Cream
Day 9/December 20: Nine Ladies Dancing, a Pink Lady Cocktail with gin, half and half, fresh cherry juice, and fresh raspberries.
Day 10/December 21: Ten Lords A Leaping — Crispy Frogs Legs (who wants to go with me?)
Day 11/December 22: Eleven Pipers Piping is a delicious piped blueberry trifle layered with lemon chiffon cake, lavender pastry cream, macerated blueberries and topped with a house-made almond brittle.
Day 12/December 23: Twelve Drummers Drumming, the last of the 12 days will see smoked turkey drumsticks on the menu!
I suggest you go for happy hour during the week and order up one of these specials. EATS is fun, and the food is good. Best of all, everything is reasonably priced. The hotel also offers complimentary valet parking, so don’t forget to have your ticket validated at EATS before you pick your car up.
