Little Saigon Night Market at Asian Garden Mall

July 14, 2017 Mad Hungry Woman 3 Comments

The Little Saigon Night Market at Asian Garden Mall’s parking lot in Westminster is held every weekend in the evenings, and reminds me of night markets dotted across Asia. There is an array of street food to choose from, and is best when you bring some friends to share your choices with.

(** I apologize for the quality of the photos**)

On a recent trip to the night market, with a bunch of food bloggers in tow, we were able to try a host of delights starting with a refreshing sugar cane juice from Mia Mia, a truck that’s parked to the side of the market.

From there, we moved on to Thįt Nuóng, or grilled pork skewers, which is offered at a handful of the stalls, although, they all taste slightly different depending on where you get it from.

My favorite is the one from this particular stand where they donned green aprons.

Another interesting item is Bánh Tráng Nuóng, or toasted rice paper (aka Vietnamese pizza) which is filled with dried shrimp, meat, eggs, scallions, and folded up like a Banh Xeo before it is served. I thoroughly enjoyed this savory item.
Bánh Mì Nuóng Muôi Ót, or spicy toasted Vietnamese baguette is interesting. Filled with pork sung and drizzled with scallions, mayo and a spicy sweet sauce, the combination of flavors was overwhelming in a strange way. The overall texture was weird as well. It was definitely not my favorite.
Other savory items we tried:
Grilled Mussels — if you’re a fan of mussels, these are perfectly prepared with a slight smokiness to them.
Grilled Lobster Tails — topped with a scallion sauce and are prepared perfectly! Very tender!
We also tried some desserts which were absolutely delicious. Xoi Ông Lá Dúa or pandan steamed coconut cake roll is so tasty, and not at all sweet — maybe that’s why I liked it! The fragrance of the pandan permeates and the coconut shards and roasted sesame seeds add texture and additional flavor to it. These are absolutely delicious.
Bánh Kęp Lá Dúa are coconut pandan waffles, and these might be my favorite! The waffles are crispy on the outside, soft in the center, with coconut shards sandwiched within. It is chewy in a really delicious way!

Always a challenge to find parking space around that area. Where is the best place to park?

There is usually parking behind the Asian Garden Mall in their parking lot. I’ve never had trouble finding a parking spot… it’s a huge lot.
