Vegan Omakase at Sushi Roku + giveaway

May 3, 2019 Mad Hungry Woman 11 Comments

Sushi Roku has launched a four-course Vegan Omakase ($40) which not only vegans or vegetarians will go crazy over, but even the carnivore will absolutely enjoy. The aesthetically beautiful meal starts with Organic Kale Salad with meaty King oyster mushroom slices tossed in a ginger plum vinaigrette, and garnished with crispy dehydrated shiitake mushrooms. Its sweet-tart flavors are an ideal start to the meal.

Next, a Trio of Appetizers arrives with roasted cauliflower, miso eggplant, and grilled corn on the cob. My favorite was the miso eggplant!

There are three main course options to choose from:

4pc Assorted Vegan Nigiri and “the vegan roll” is a stunning plate of various sushi including pickled Napa cabbage with shiso and lemon zest; strawberry ceviche wrapped in daikon; cauliflower salad wrapped in daikon; yuzu guacamole topped with wasabi root and rice crackers wrapped in cucumber; and four pieces of a vegan cut roll with grilled eryngii (better known as trumpet mushroom) and asparagus, jalapeno, butter lettuce, soy paper and almond sauce.

Grilled Avocado is a silky smooth avocado split in half, grilled, and then drizzled with ponzu sauce. The heat softens the avocado a little, and the salty tart ponzu elevates the natural flavor of the avocado.

Tofu Steak with Mixed Mushroom Tobanyaki arrives steaming on a plate — tobanyaki means to roast on a ceramic plate. The tofu is lightly fried, then simmered in a gluten-free citrus ponzu sauce with oyster and enoki mushrooms, and garnished with fried shishito peppers and green onions. This was my favorite entree, and best enjoyed with a bowl of steamed rice.

I am not a fan of desserts, but if you are, you will love the Vegan Chocolate Avocado Mousse served in the little crispy phyllo cup. The mousse is creamy, and the crunch from the phyllo cup gives it a wonderful textural contrast.

The Vegan Omakase is available at all Sushi Roku locations.

I’m giving away a $100 giftcard this week, courtesy of Sushi Roku, for you to try the Vegan Omakase with a friend. Simply leave a comment and tell me why you’d like to try it, and who you would bring. Entries close on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at midnight PST. Best of luck!

I’d be bringing my 8 yrs old daughter with me, she’s really into sushi like her mom, we’d love to try out new food and she’s really into japanese anime nowadays, so she’s really loving sushi, ramen and mochi ice cream, I’m so proud 🙂 I’d love to surprise her!

I’m going to be dreaming about this for days, please make my dreams a reality! ;). My husband doesn’t think vegan can be as good as “regular” food, this will help him see the light. Such an amazing post, so good I can almost taste it. Thank you!

My wife is vegetarian, and this looks like a great way to get her out of the avocado roll rut!

I would take my mom for mother’s day – we are lifelong vegetarians and she’s never tried sushi 😊

I would love to try this place! Delicious, creative, and beautiful vegan sushi is basically my dream come true. Good vegan sushi in a format like this is not easy to find. I’d love to take my best friend here for a birthday treat, especially with that avocado mouse since avocado makes everything better!

I would love to try this yummy Vegan Omakase course to open my taste palate to unique style of food. It will be fun to share it with my vegetarian friend because it is always hard to find a restaurant for both of us to enjoy.
